Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has implemented a "walkin street " project by closing some roads of historical and cultural interest to create an open space; secondly to provide avenue for arts centres and for concerts; thirdly for cultural and commercial activities and, lastly, for walking. The roads involved in the programme are:

Home to Chinese communities, visitors will be able to glimpse the ways of Chinese life and experience the wonderful food at the many restaurants on both sides of the road. It is also a good place from where to buy gold and jewellery. The road closes from Odean Circle to Lampangchai Intersection.

This is an area with guest-houses a a favourite with backpackers lookin for budget accommdation. The road is closed from Tanao road to Sam Sen Road to enable food stalls and sales booths to be set-up and cultural shows to be staged.

This is one of the historical roads on Rattanakosin Island, located to the side of Thammasat University campus and Wat Maha Tat. This road, which is cool and shaded by trees, will be closed from Maharat Road to Phra Chan Road for open-air art exhibitions by local and international artists.
