Walking Streets Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has implemented a "walkin street " project by closing some roads of historical and cultural interst for four main ressons: Lisstly, to create an open space; secondly to provide avenue for arts centres and for concerts; thirdly for cultural and commercial activities and, lastly, for walking. The roads involved in the programme are:

Yaowarat Road, China Town  

Home to Chinese communities, visitors will be able to glimpse the ways of Chinese life and experience the wonderful food at the many restaurants on both sides of the road. It is also a good place from where to buy gold and jewellery. The road closes from Odian Circle to Lampangchai Intersection.


Khao San Road, Bang Lamphu  

Khao San Road, Bang Lamphu This is an area with guest-houses a a favourite with backpackers lookin
for budget accommdation. The road is closed from Tanao road to Sam Sen Road to enable food stalls and sales booths to be set-up and cultural shows to be staged.

Phra Chan Road  

This is one of the historical roads on Rattanakosin Island, located to the side of Thammasat University campus and Wat Maha Tat. This road, which is cool and shaded by trees, will be closed from Maharat Road to Phra Chan Road for open-air art exhibitions by local and international artists.


Phra Athit Road  
Formerly a residential area for members of royal families, the buildings were constructed in the architectural style popular during the reign of King Rama V. Phra Sumen Fort is located at the curve of the road.


Convent Road  

One of the roads that connects Sathon to Silom Roads, is closed (on selected days) from the beginning of S Pitpat 2 to Soi Sala Daeng 2. This is the place to experienc contemporary concerts ofTh and international music, bod by amateur and professional bands. You may see musiciai hats on the ground waiting f( kind folk to give up their 100: change. There are also boot! selling cheaply-priced goods and many food stalls.
